Submit Building Plans for Review and Approval by KEYS

To begin the process of obtaining electrical service for your new construction project, KEYS requires a complete set of signed and sealed building plans. These plans must be reviewed and approved by KEYS before the City or County Planning Departments will accept the plans for permitting.  

How to Submit Plans:

Online: Submit Plans by completing the online form and uploading your building plans.

In-Person: Drop off plans to 1001 James Street, Key West, FL  

KEYS review process typically takes about 5 to 7 business days.  Once approved for a meter location, KEYS will return the approved plans via the email provided or notify you for pick up if physical plans were submitted.  

If you are still designing your project and would like input from KEYS' Engineering Department, please contact us at 305-295-1042. KEYS can provide information on overhead vs underground service options and modular home installation requirements and considerations.

Obtaining Electrical Service

For Residential Service:

  • KEYS must approve the plans and provide a meter location for your project.
  • A Project Review Form must be completed for residential services over 400 amps.
  • To sign up for electric service, please visit Residential Service | Keys Energy Services to view the requirements for establishing service.
  • An impact fee as outlined in the billing tariffs is required for new residential service. (This fee does not apply to residential service upgrades.)

For Commercial Service:

  • KEYS must approve the plans and provide a meter location for your project.
  • A Project Review Form must be completed for all commercial projects.
  • To sign up for electric service, please visit Commercial Service | Keys Energy Services to view the requirements for establishing service.
  • An impact fee as outlined in the billing tariffs is required for new commercial service and upgraded commercial services.
